Mae Tari Dormitory

This dormitory was build in 2014 by Gyaw Gyaw and will host 40 students from Burma beginning in June.

Safe Electrical Installation
Because this school is on the Thai side of the border and has access to the electrical grid, we provided safe electrical installation and connected it to the grid.  Safe electrical installation is important to provide a safe living environment for the children.  The  image to the right shows best why its important to have professionals do electrical installations...

While that photo was taken in Bangkok, the grid looks the same here.  Improper wiring can cause a system fault and exposed wires pose the risk of electrical shock.  We provided lighting for the sleeping areas and power access and lighting for the study and eating area.

Water Access/Filtration
Currently the community connected to the dormitory is digging a well to provide water for the students.  Solbakken will use a AC pump to run water to three 1,000 liter storage tanks at the highest point on the site.  From there we will install a bio-sand/charcoal water filtration system that will provide 300 liters of drinking water a day.  This will run directly to the kitchen and be used for cooking and consumption.  Buying water is a major expense here as you have to buy it in 20 liter bottles and find a way to transport it.  The bio-sand/charcoal filters only cost $60 USD and are easy to construct and install.  After construction we test both the source and filtered water for E. coli, Total Coliform, and Nitrate.  The testing is ongoing to ensure that the drinking water is never contaminated.
