Maw Kwee School Children |
Maw Kwee is a small rural village in Thailand along the Burmese border. With limited access to education in rural Karen State, Burma, students travel to Maw Kwee to attend the primary school alongside the local children. Some students have fled conflict zones and Maw Kwee School was one of their only options for schooling outside of the refugee camps. 115 students stay in dormitories adjacent to the school and at night only have candle light to study by. By installing a solar system and providing lighting, The Branch Foundation and Solbakken will empower the students to further their education and live in a safe environment. Learn More...
Lay Wah Clinic |
The Lay Wah Clinic
The Lay Wah clinic is located in Karen State close to the
Thai border. The four medics and 21
staff that rotate shifts there care for 150 outpatient and 12 inpatient
villagers from the surrounding area.
Without power the staff has difficulty providing the necessary care at
night; especially in cases of emergency or child birth. Solbakken is working with them to install a 2-panel solar system to meet the needs of the staff and patients. Learn More...

Mae Kai Village |
Mae Kai Village
Mae Kai village is located in eastern Karen state and home
to 110 people. This small village had no
clean water access in the village. While
there was a river nearby, the villagers did not use if for cooking or drinking
as it was frequented by water buffalo, cattle, and pigs. We were able to bring clean water to the village by laying over half a kilometer of 2" PVC pipe from a small stream to a 4,000 liter of storage site. Learn More...

The Kaw Lah Hay School is located in eastern Karen state and is attended by 198 students. The students and teachers had to use candles or kerosene lamps to study by at night.
